Why your med spa isn't showing up when people ask AI

Someone has been thinking about Botox for six months. They finally decide to do it, pick up their phone, and ask for the best med spa near them. They book with the first name that comes back with good reviews and a clear price. If that name is not yours, you never even knew a client worth years of repeat appointments was up for grabs.

Aesthetics is researched quietly, then decided in one search

Nobody walks into a med spa on impulse the way they call a plumber. People read, scroll, compare, and quietly talk themselves into it over weeks. But at the end of all that research, the actual decision usually comes down to one question typed or spoken into a phone: who is the best med spa near me, and can I trust them with my face.

Ask Siri or ChatGPT that question and you do not get ten blue links anymore. You get a short list, sometimes a single recommendation, with a sentence explaining why. There is no page two. If you are not on that short list, you do not exist for that client, no matter how good your injector is or how beautiful your space looks.

And this is not a one-visit loss. Injectables run on a schedule. Filler, laser packages, memberships, skin plans. Losing one new client is losing every appointment they would have booked for the next several years, plus the friends they would have told.

Here is the part that catches med spa owners off guard: it is almost never the results. It is the data. The spas AI recommends are not better with a needle. They just have a complete, consistent, readable record, and most of their competitors do not. In fact the prettier the website, the worse this problem usually is.

The fix: make your spa legible to AI

1

Fully complete your Google Business Profile

Set the primary category to medical spa, then list every treatment under the name clients actually search: Botox, Dysport, dermal and lip filler, laser hair removal, IPL, microneedling, chemical peels, body contouring, hormone and weight management. Add accurate hours, whether you are appointment only, who your injectors are, and current photos of the space and the team. This one record feeds most of the local results clients see, and most of your competitors have left half of it blank.

2

Claim Apple Business Connect

Siri and Apple Maps run on Apple's own data, not Google. It is free and takes about ten minutes. Claim your listing, verify it, and fill in the same details. Your buyer is overwhelmingly on an iPhone, so this is not a nice extra. It is half your market deciding whether you come up at all.

3

Add real schema to your website

Structured data that spells out you are a medical spa, where you are, your hours, your treatments and your providers. It is invisible to visitors and essential to AI. Most med spa sites have either no structured data at all or the generic website type, which tells an assistant a site exists but never tells it there is a local med spa behind it. Without it, AI has to guess what you do, and it would rather recommend a business it does not have to guess about.

What else decides whether AI names you

The listings and schema get you into the running. A few more things decide whether AI picks you over the spa across town:

Your before and after photos are invisible to AI. This is the biggest blind spot in the industry. Your gallery is your best proof with a human being and close to worthless to an assistant, because AI reads text, not pictures. If those images have no alt text, no captions, and no copy around them naming the treatment, the area, the product and the number of sessions, then as far as AI is concerned you have never done that treatment. Write a sentence next to every result. It costs nothing and it is the single highest-value hour most spas can spend on their site.

Recent reviews that name treatments and providers. Someone is deciding to let a stranger inject their face, so trust decides everything. An assistant asked who to recommend plays it safe and names the spa with a clear, recent, high-rated record. Reviews that say "lip filler with Ashley" are far more useful to AI than a wall of five stars with no words, because they connect a person, a treatment and a result.

Provider credentials in plain text. Clients want to know who is actually holding the syringe and whether a medical director oversees the practice. Put the names, licenses and training in readable text on your site, not inside a headshot graphic or a PDF. An assistant can only repeat what it can read, and credentials are exactly the kind of detail it reaches for when someone asks whether a place is safe.

Pricing and consult clarity. A huge share of aesthetics searches are price shaped: cost of Botox per unit, laser hair removal packages, whether the consult is free. You do not have to publish a full menu, but say something. Ranges, a starting price, or a plainly stated free consultation. Silence means AI cannot recommend you for any of those questions and hands them to a competitor who answered.

Booking that a human can actually finish. Many med spa sites bury booking inside a third-party widget that loads late and shows nothing readable. AI cannot see inside it, and a hesitant first-time client often gives up on it. Keep a plain phone number and a readable text link to book, right next to the widget.

Consistent name, address, and phone. AI cross-checks your details across the web. When they match everywhere, it trusts you are one real business. Med spas rebrand, add locations and change ownership more than most, so old names and numbers linger online and make an assistant unsure. When it is unsure, it moves on.
